Hey guys I’m almost thirteen years old and my bows draw weight is at 51 pounds I’ve been working hard at trying to get the draw weight up but is 51 pounds enough to use the G5 havic expandable broadheads?

Sincerely Caleb

Caleb,

My daughter Raleigh shoots a bow with a 45 pound draw weight and has tagged some mature bucks with that setup!  You can watch her recent hunt at:  https://www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/launching-arrows-buck-down-doe-down

Raleigh uses the G5 Striker broadhead (http://www.g5outdoors.com/g5-outdoors-striker-broadhead-death-row/).  It’s super sharp and flies great!

I’m not aware of any research that states a draw weight or amount of energy necessary for a mechanical head.  However, 51 pounds may be a bit on the light side, especially if the shot is at a mature buck. I’d suggest you use the Striker broadhead for bows with a draw weight under 60 pounds.

Finally – make sure you can shoot accurate in a hunting situation (excited, heavy clothes, etc.) with the draw weight.  Accuracy is much more important that energy!

Enjoy creation,

grant
