Hello Dr. Grant I grew up hunting in marsh wetlands near north central Wisconsin. What are the food sources for whitetail that live around these wetlands?

Kurt,

There are several wetland plants that deer eat during the growing season. These can provide a source of protein, but rarely are high in energy. There’s usually some hammocks (high dry places) where oaks, white cedar, etc. grow.  Often deer that seek cover in wetlands venture to neighboring ag fields to consume grain crops.

I’d have to know what’s available to know which specific species deer in your area are eating.

Enjoy creation!
