Do I have any concerns with the G5 Havoc broadheads?

Hello Grant,

Do you have any concern that the G5 broadheads you shoot would struggle with penetration on marginal hits? Clearly the larger cutting diameter would have more “drag” but you often teach that sharpness is what matters. Many folks still shoot fixed blades or small expandable types just in case they hit a shoulder or other tough areas. I have had trouble finding any heads that are as sharp as desired. I have owned sharp replacement blades in years past but a broadhead, out of the package, rarely has a very sharp edge. Thank you for your thoughts and for being so accessible.

Mark,

I shot fixed blade heads for years.  I was leery of trying a mechanical head. G5 used the same German still and sharpening process to manufacture the Havocs as they did the Striker heads. Strikers have been tested and shown to be one of the sharpest heads on the market. This knowledge is what convinced me to try the Havoc.

I’ve since tagged many deer, hogs, and turkeys with the G5 Havoc. I’ve made bad shots and blown through shoulders of hogs with the Havoc!  I was with one of my Pro Staff in Colorado earlier this year when he shot a very large bull elk and had pass through penetration with a Havoc head. Last year another GrowingDeer Pro Staffer took a Boone and Crockett black bear with a Havoc – complete pass through on a 500 + pound bear.

I’m totally convinced the Havoc is a good head!  I’ll be using them the remainder of this season!

Enjoy creation,
