Question
I am currently trying to find away to speak to my neighbor who does not like hunting as she has been baiting deer and putting up things to keep them from crossing onto my land because I hunt. This very same neighbor owns and breeds thoroughbred horses. This year my county came out with a no baiting law due to a few cases of CWD.

My question to you is , does CWD affect horses? I have seen reports of it affecting cattle. This would be a issue for her as the deer feed in the same fields that the horse do at times.

Thanks for your time sir.

Okye,

There’s no evidence of CWD impacting horses or cattle. It only impacts deer species.  Mad Cow disease is closely related, but isn’t the same.

You might try sharing the Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance’s web site with her so she can learn the dangers of baiting in areas where CWD has been confirmed. If she loves deer, she should stop baiting  in an area where CWD has been confirmed.

Education is usually the best tool.

Enjoy creation,

Grant
