Am I concerned about climate change?

Question
Hello Dr. Grant. First I’d like to say how much I love your show. I’ve learned more about habitat management from you and your staff than any other resource. I hope to use these strategies at a 30 acre plot I hunt here in NE Alabama.
I’ve searched for this question and I don’t believe anyone has asked it yet. As a scientist what is your opinion on global climate change? And are you concerned about the consequences to deer populations? Thanks for taking time to answer my question.

Jonathan,

Thank you for sharing the kind words!

Climate change is not my area of expertise.  From the research and data I’ve read I am not concerned about climate change.  It seems to be much more of a political agenda than a legitimate concern.  In fact, there’s data that shows the earth is in a cooling phase.  Many climatologist don’t agree with the climate change theories.

I’m 54. When I was freshman in college the prevailing theory was that the earth was entering the next ice age.  Glaciers were predicted to grow so large that the ocean levels would decrease and most US ports would be dry.  I spent a semester studying about the next ice age.  That theory was totally opposite from the current theory.  Yet the current climate change proponents claim they are following data/trends for hundreds of years.  So did the “next ice age” proponents.

Until there’s better evidence I won’t be a proponent of climate change.

Enjoy creation,

grant
