May I volunteer for a week?

Question
Grant,

Since I can remember I have wanted to work with wildlife and be a part of the DNR. I stumbled on your site months ago and the questions I have had, have been answered very thoroughly by you and your staff. They have helped me become a better hunter and naturalist.

I read you do not have any funds allocated for new interns this coming summer. But I was wondering if you would accept me as a volunteer this summer? I plan a week long vacation every year and I would love to spend a week this summer volunteering my time and labor helping you and your team at the proving grounds. The only payment I will accept is in the form of education and an amazing learning opportunity.

Please let me know if this would be something you would consider!

Thanks.
Jeremy

Jeremy,

Thanks for being part of the GrowingDeer family!

Typically our interns are here for a minimum of ten weeks.  We need time to teach, train, and get to know.  I’ve never considered a volunteer for a week.  That’s seems a bit risky for both of us.  You might travel here and it rain all week or all or some of us may be scheduled to be working out of state that week, etc.

I suggest you consider starting by attending one of our Field Events.  These events are usually over a Friday and Saturday and we tour The Proving Grounds and share many of our hunting and habitat management techniques.  This is focused learning experience. We’ll announce the next event on http://www.GrowingDeer.com.

Enjoy creation,

grant
