Myself and 7 other guys lease a 1400 acre farm in Mason County WV. We take 3-4 130 up class deer each year and 3-4 small 1-2 year olds. Our farmer is a old school guy who will NOT allow any does to be taken We know the small bucks need to walk but we also all love deer meat. An average day in the field yields 10-20 sightings. We have a large population although low in good bucks. . I estimate or ratio to be 1-5 with respect to mature bucks and does. This place has excellent habitat and water along with 300 acres of additional corn and bean field. It could be a trophy farm if we could get him to see the importance of responsible doe management. We don’t want to look elsewhere as its 30 minutes from most of our homes and we can leave our gear out without worry of it being stolen. Any help? Do you do consultations? He needs to see an expert face to face. Attached are a couple of pics from this year of the big one and the average buck here.

Rod,

Sounds like you do have a great lease!  It can be tough to convince some landowners of the need to harvest does.  You are wise to consider an outside source. The Biblical statement that “A profit has no honor at home” if often true when it comes to deer management.

We’ve been incorporated 26 years and our primary work is helpijng landowners/leasees develop site-specific deer management plans.  Feel free to send a brief description of your lease and a contact phone number to info@GrowingDeer.tv and I’ll get back to you soon.

Enjoy creation,
