What’s an inexpensive camera that I can use to start filming hunts?

Grant,

Congratulations on the latest mature buck during the pre-rut! I am always looking for a new challenge when hunting. I recently killed an 11 point with split brow tines in southwest Kansas, however, I found myself wishing I would have had the hunt on camera. I always enjoy watching your show and it gets me excited to hunt. I was hoping you might be able to give some advice for a beginner filming a hunt.

What is an inexpensive starter camera, mounting equipment, etc. that you like? I’ve taken a lot of cell phone pictures and videos, but as you can guess, that really isn’t great quality. I don’t want to spend a lot just looking for something new to add to the hunting experience.

Thank you,

Jess

Jess,

Congratulations on harvesting a nice Kansas buck!

There are literally hundreds of new models of cameras, mics, mounts, etc., each year.  I don’t pretend to know the best – especially of entry level cameras as we use a bit more professional level gear.

Some of my friends have used Cannon Vixia cameras for years.  There are many models within this line.  The Vixia units have proven tough and do a great job for that price range.,

I hope to see some of your footage soon!

Enjoy creation,

grant
