How did this plastic band get on this doe’s foot?

Hey Grant. I recently harvested a mature doe on my property during rifle season. She was taken in Greene county just east of Springfield. After I got the deer home I noticed she had a hard plastic band wrapped around her foot. At first I thought she had been tagged by Mdc. But the band has no identifiable marks, numbers etc on it. All the hair underneath the band is completely gone and it’s pretty tight like it’s been on there for awhile. Any ideas on what this is or how it got on there.

Clint,

Congratulations on tagging some venison!

I suspect that doe either stepped on some trash (the band) or someone captured that deer as a fawn, put the band one, and then released the doe.

Biologists wouldn’t put such a band on deer. We use collars that are expandable or will break away with pressure encase the deer gets caught in brush, fence, etc.

That’s a unique find!

Enjoy creation,

grant
