Why don’t you do a show about mule deer?

Question
I watch your videos every week, and even though I hunt on public land, I find some interesting nuggets in your videos. One thing that I have noticed, is that you do not address MULE deer hunting. Being in Southern Idaho, the only type of deer around here is Mulies. White Tails are farther North. Maybe a video, pointing out the differences, and similarities between these two species of deer maybe of interest for your many viewers. Also I was wondering if you have any suggestions for hunting Elk, bear, wolves, or any other creature that has a hunting season.

Ronald,

I worked with mule deer habitat for the BLM during the early 80’s. However, there are no mule deer near where I live now.  Maybe I’ll hunt mulies someday!

I’ve never hunted bear or wolves – but hope to!

New growth sprouting due to clearing bush honeysuckle!

Question
Just wanted to say thanks for your help. I was completely encouraged today. I’ve written you a couple times about a grove of honeysuckle. Today I went for some more clearing of the mess and I happened to clear some leaves from the ground on areas previously cleared and there was all kinds of little sprouts underneath the leaves. I’m so excited to see some life already benefitting from my hard work. Today once again I enjoyed creation. Thanks again

Doug,

Thanks for sharing the update!  Good habitat management produces results!

Check out my “Fire Tool Cart.”

Question
Here is a photo of my oak woodlands “fire tool cart” that I tow behind the garden tractor for prescribed burning. Where there are not too many rocks or stumps and the terrain allows, I cleared trails which I mow every year to keep clean. I have a Stihl BR600 leaf blower, but three passes with a John Deere X540 tractor with special high-lift blades and the rubber chute removed, makes a great leaf blower and fireline clearing machine for oak leaves.

If the attached file does not go through, I can send you photos and plans for the fire cart with your regular email address.

Really enjoy your videos.

Changing my career path to be a wildlife biologist!

Question
Hi Dr. Woods,

I don’t really have a question however I just wanted to say that after coming across your YouTube page about a year or so ago, my outlook on hunting and “managing” of deer has changed.

I’m a avid hunter, love to be outdoors working out at the deer lease down here in East Texas and I totally look forward to your videos every week.

I even went back a few years to get some ideas from your tree and food plots based around pines etc.

As I continue to watch your videos and with the great help you have with your interns and Adam, it has made me think about my life and what I want out of it. As of yesterday (02/23/16) I started to look into going into school to be a Wildlife Biologist.

I talk my father’s ear off about your expertise and probably implementing some of your practices at the lease we currently hunt on.

I wanted to come to this years Field Day and bring my father, however with him recently getting laid off, the timing and cash just wasn’t within our reach. Hope you have another one next year for us to attend as I see the knowledge you and those you work with is invaluable.

As you say every time you close your videos; to slow down and listen to what the Creator is saying to you – he was definitely telling me to reach out to thank you, your family and your team for helping me out and getting a plan ready for the upcoming season.

Have a good day and thank you Dr. Woods.

May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

Stephen,

Thank you for sharing the kind and encouraging words!  There are several universities in Texas with good wildlife programs!

May God provide for you and your family and may you be blessed with many enjoyable days in creation!

I enjoyed visiting with Adam!

Question
Hey Grant! I just wanted to tell you that your staff was well represented at the NWTF convention this past weekend. I got a chance to meet Adam and Matt while they were at the Redneck Blinds booth. I actually interrupted a conversation just to say Hey and Adam stepped away just to talked to me for about 10 minutes. I was very appreciative that he took the time to discuss various wildlife topics for a brief moment. I just wanted to share that experience with you and you don’t have to post it on your website. Thanks for all that you do!!

Garrett,

Thank you for sharing the kind words!  Adam and Matt enjoyed the NWTF.  We all enjoy visiting with fellow hunters and sharing information.  I hope our paths cross soon!  If your schedule permits you should consider joining us during our next Field Event where we all have more time to visit.

Thanks to your Dad for teaching me to stay calm!

Question
Hi Grant I don’t have a question but I wanted you to know that I went hunting last week. Whenever I see a deer I usually get so nervous that I shake my gun. Last week when a doe came out, I thought about the last episode where you took your Dad hunting and he killed the coyote and the deer. He was so calm when he made his shots. When the doe came out last week, I told myself to stay calm like your Dad and just make a good shot. I did and I dropped that doe. I owe that doe to your Dad. Just wanted you and him to know that. I know this is a hard time for you and him. I lost my Dad to lung cancer so I know how it feels to be going through what you are going through right now. I thought my deer story might make you both smile. Tell him I said THANKS for showing me how to stay calm and make a good shot. Keeping all of you in my prayers – Cindy

Cindy,

Congratulations!  That sounds like an exciting hunt!!

I’m with Dad now and will share your kind words with him.

Leukemia

Question
Not a question Grant, but a comment.
My father passed away from Lukemia on Thursday afternoon. I was able to visit him in Idaho the week before his passing, he was 80.
While my father wasn’t much of a hunter, he was my biggest “hunting” fan.
It does my heart good to see you enjoying what ever time you have left with your Dad. May God Bless your family abundantly.
Thanks for sharing him with us.
God Bless.

Congratulations!

Question

Dr. Grant,

I asked you if you had any tips for hunting from the ground earlier on in the season I don\’t know if you remember me. I ended up realizing the ladder built up to the Y that I had put in. Was where the deer were at during the early season, there was a nice white oak dropping right on the last bench before the creek bottom. An opportunity never presented itself within clear sight during the day.

But I was patient I waited for a NW wind so I could go to the very top of the ridge a good 300 yards off an put sum code blue out during the rut. My \

Robert,

Congratulations on your successful hunt!  I’m thrilled your strategy worked!

Thanks for the kind words David!

Question
Dr. Grant
My name is David Ideus, I thank you for answering my question on Facebook earlier today on how old my deer is. I don’t really have another question, but I just wanted to say you, and what you do for a living is very cool. As of right now I wish to attend the univercity of Nebraska Lincoln, then the univercity if Iowa and get a Dr. Degree In Wild life biology, then something is agricultural sales. I want to do something similar to what you do. Maybe you can give me some tips? Maybe even someday applying for the growing deer field staff team. Someday it would be a pleasure to meet you. I watch all your videos on your hunts and hunting tips, and when here’s not a new one I wait anxiously for the next one. I am big fan of your show. I have learned a ton on how to manage my property her is south Easter Seward Nebraska. Since then our property has become thriving with healthy deer. I wanted to say that you are to blame for this. I thank you personally. I will surly thank the creator for all of this .
Thanks, David!

David,

Thanks for sharing the kind words!  I trust you will intentionally seek God’s will for your life and follow the path He’s prepared for you!
